ABOUT ME

My name is Zofia Brunarska, in June 2024 I graduated with a Master's degree in Scenography and Fashion Design, from the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznan (Poland). My studies allowed me to develop my passions in the context of theatrical, performance or film stage planning, and in particular to train my skills in the area of clothing design and costume design. Fashion has become the leitmotif of my studies, and it is in it that I have gained the most theoretical and practical experience. Through special analysis of the various stages of fashion creation, I had the chance to interact in many levels of creation to the production of a finished model. Beginning with sketching, through visualization, construction, sewing, to the realization of the photo shoot for the portfolio.

COCONUT BUTTONS

Long-sleeved hemp shirt with a neckline finished with a classic double-layer collar. The neck of the shirt in the central part enriched with a decorative triangular cut, and refers to the details on the cuffs. Fastened with 6 coconut buttons, partially concealed in the lower half of the shirt.

MIRROR, MIRROR, TELL ME MORE...

In the past, we knew ideals mainly from fairy tales. Queens of extraordinary beauty gazed at their own beauty in shining mirrors. glittering mirrors and sighed at their own beauty. The reflection they saw did not The reflection they saw required no comment, as it was flawless. Unfortunately, none of us, despite trying hard, do not live in a fairy tale. Today, when we look in the mirror, we try to see something more, to be exceptional not only in our own eyes, but also in society's estimation. Glass panes have been replaced by front-facing phone cameras and real reflections by filtered, distorted images of reality. distorted images of reality. We are balancing on the edge of truth and hypocrisy, and this all in order to meet the current canons of beauty, while feeding our own egos. There is a Narcissist dormant within each of us, and it is up to us to decide whether we will allow him to take control of ourselves, falling into the modern vortex of the pursuit of beauty, is an individual decision.

BEE END. CLOTHING AS A MEDIUM OF SOCIAL COMMUNICATION

Human activity, conducted in an incompetent way, contributes to irreversible changes to the planet on which we live. Putting our own well-being before, we do not consider the consequences of our decisions. As a result, the environment is degrading at an alarming rate. The consequences of these actions include a drastic decline in the number of bees, which play a vital role in the proper functioning of the ecosystem. This phenomenon is unfortunately neglected. Therefore, being a representative of the human species, I do not want to remain indifferent to the surrounding reality. I use the artistic medium of clothing design to express my appeal. Capturing the phenomenon using fashion intends to initiate the viewer to face the truth in an approachable way and to draw attention and explore the population's awareness of the aforementioned topic.

FLORA

Outfit inspired by nature, the inflorescences of field plants especially important for the life and functioning of bees.

BEEKEEPER

An outfit showing the human element in the story of the bees.

QUEEN BEE

Queen - the largest and most important in the hive. Without her, the group ceases to function and exist.

WORKER BEE

Costume of a worker bee, a bee that does hard work all its life and contributes to the proper life of the hive, but also to the development of nature, affecting human life.

VISION

A pessimistic interpretation of the appearance of the world, in which bees would cease to exist.The colorful threads on the front are meant to indicate continued hope.

A collection focusing on the melting of glaciers. The creations symbolically depict the various stages of glacier disappearance and global warming from iceberg to semi-transparent silhouettes alluding to the fragility and delicacy of ice.

ABOUT WORLD OF WEARABLE ART COMPETITION

Since it was established in 1987 WOW has embraced the worlds of art and design, running an international competition that culminates in a spectacular theatrical performance each year. The exhilarating WOW Show is a visual feast for audiences and an opportunity for designers to be recognised and celebrated on the world stage.

WOW offers an opportunity to express innovation, originality and to push the boundaries of creativity. The show represents the last stage of the competition as finalists garments get their moment to shine in front of over 60,000 people.

COSTUME AS A WAY OF PORTRAYING

A NEW REALITY.

AN ANALYSIS OF WES ANDERSON'S UNREAL WORLDS

MASTER'S DEGREE THESIS / DIPLOMA

LOBBY GIRL

The Lobby Girl silhouette is a reference GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL. The design is based on the character of Zero Mustafa's female counterpart and a reinterpretation of his hotelboy uniform. The dominant color of the costumes shown in the work is dark purple, which also served as the basis for the design of the new silhouette. The key element of the creation is an openwork, skirt, with its shape reminiscent of the architectural form of the title building. It was juxtaposed with a semi-transparent silk blouse, which emphasizes the delicacy and transparency of the supporting character in her dealings with the hotel manager, and an edgy outer garment.

ACTRESS

The creation refers to the work of ASTEROID CITY. The styling of my heroine is a reference to the fashion of the 1950s. The main element of the costume is a long, voluminous coat with a belt intended to evoke the association of the robe worn by the actress. The design connotes the image of a flying saucer, and the arc of light being a significant element of the story. An important aspect is that the action takes place in the desert, thus the predominant color of my interpretation as well as in the film is sky blue. Highlighting the lack of embarrassment and awareness of her intimacy of the film heroine is the placement of only a decade's worth of stylized underwear under her coat.

SCOUT

The SCOUT costume is an amalgamation of the characters of MOONRISE KINGDOM, thus creating a new female character. The main element of the reinterpretation of the story transferred to clothing is a several-piece scout uniform and accessories. The color scheme and cut used in it, partly refer to the pink coat worn by the film heroine, and the cut of the set is a modern response to the creation of a visual depiction of a girl scout. The silhouette is complemented by an animalistic handbag that corresponds to the story of the boy's gift of beetle earrings contained in the film.

MS. FOX

The animal silhouette, provided a motif for interpreting the Fantastic Mr. Fox story, focused on Kristofferson's character and side motifs. Its centerpiece is a corseted dress, which, like the fur, is structured and alludes to the film's other corduroy creations. Of particular note is the basque, which is arranged in the shape of fox ears. Similarly, the back of the creation refers to the anatomy of the animal, important in the story depicted by the director, the fox's tail. It is complemented by a knitted glove with a thumb hole, which is a reinterpretation of the mantelpiece worn by the main character's son, Ash, created from a white sock.
